Most of us know our own zodiac signs, and some of us even know the basic traits that are said to go along with them. But have any of us ever stopped to think about our horses and what their signs might mean for their personalities? Your friends at Horse.com have! We spoke to a leading astrologer to put together what we believe to be the ultimate quick reference guide to horse astrology. Your horse’s zodiac sign could very well explain his or her behavior in the ring, pasture or stall! And if you don’t know your horse’s birthday, maybe you can guess it just by reading the descriptions of each sign.
Aries | March 21 – April 19 | Element: Fire
Fittingly for the first sign of the zodiac, the Aries is a trailblazer. They are one-uppers, which means they are extremely competitive. The Aries is also impulsive, but never does something just because everyone else is. Around the barn, Aries horses might go left when you want to go right – because they know better. Sometimes Aries can come off as rude, but it’s because they are simply bold in their actions.
Taurus | April 20 – May 20 | Element: Earth
Tauruses are dedicated to their work but are also lazy. While they will get the job done, they’d much rather be relaxing. Always willing to listen, the Taurus makes an amazing partner in any aspect of the word as long as you can accept that they are extremely stubborn. Around the barn, the Taurus horse might plant his or her feet and not want to move forward past the stall, and also be a little sluggish and hard to get moving once in a ring.
Gemini | March 21 – April 19 | Element: Air
The Gemini sign is often referred to as “the twins,” and for good reason. Geminis always appear to have two opposite sides of themselves, and you never know which one you are dealing with at any time! They are expert communicators and always the first ones to start an interaction. Around the barn, your Gemini horse might be the perfect angel for your farrier one day, and the most mischievous little devil for the very next appointment. Because the Gemini is a socialite, you might expect a lot of horse buddies in his or her pasture.
Cancer | June 21 – July 22 | Element: Water
The Cancer is a very emotional sign. They are extremely shy around large groups or those who they don’t know well. Yet one of their most prominent traits is how nurturing they are. Around the barn, your Cancer horse might be able to pick up on whether or not you have had a good or bad day. If you are sad, your horse will most likely act gentler toward you. Cancers want to make you feel better, always.
Leo | July 23 – August 22 | Element: Fire
The leader of the zodiac, Leos thrive on social events and enjoy being admired by all. They are also very energetic and intense in the way that they interact with others. They are true to themselves and anytime they do something, it’s because they want to. Leos will show friendliness to strangers as often as they show it to their best friends and family. Around the barn, the Leo horse will prance around and show off with pride. Because they love attention, they will also draw in horses and humans alike and naturally make them all want to be around him or her.
Libra | September 23 – October 22 | Element: Air
The Libra values peace and harmony above all else. They are kind and always willing to put others before themselves. But they hate to see any form of conflict, and find it difficult to deal with confrontation. Around the barn, Libra horses might need a little but more direction than other horses but once everything is laid out for them, they excel! On a trail ride, you will definitely have to be the one to choose which direction to go at a split on the path.
Virgo | August 23 – September 22 I Element: Earth
The Virgo thrives when in control of any situation. They are said to have a form of obsessive-compulsive disorder and always want things to go their way, or how they envisioned it beforehand. If one thing goes wrong throughout their day, the Virgo will be completely thrown off and have a hard time resetting. Virgos tend to be judgmental – but mostly of themselves. Around the barn, the Virgo horse will do best when a strict routine is implemented. They also want their stalls picked clean at all times!
Scorpio | October 23 – November 21 | Element: Water
The Scorpio steers clear of any individual who does not come off as genuine. They are never scared to enter a debate and always stand their ground once there. Scorpios often come off as intimidating, but that’s just the confidence that radiates from being so in tune with their own emotions. If something is brewing in the mind of a Scorpio, you will not even pick up on it unless they want to expose such thoughts. Around the barn, Scorpio horses may seem quiet but are actually just taking in their surroundings. They might surprise you when it comes to learning new things because they have been paying attention to others who already learned what you wanted to teach all along.
Sagittarius | November 22 – December 21 | Element: Fire
Being natural adventurers, Sagittariuses are very strong-willed and enjoy stepping away from the rest of the herd to stand on their own here and there. The Sagittarius also does not back down from confrontation. Around the barn, the Sagittarius horse might get a little too feisty with some of his or her pasture mates at times, or go against your wishes in the ring. However, this boldness stands out in a positive way, because each step they take is prominent and true to who they are.
Capricorn | December 22 – January 19 | Element: Earth
Capricorns are workaholics. Even when a task is complete, they tend to search for more things to do. They know what they want and always strive to get whatever that may be. Capricorns do not like to break any rules, and pay attention to what is asked of them. One of their only flaws is their short temper. Around the barn, the Capricorn horse might get frustrated easily and throw mini fits in the ring and while on crossties. Overall, though, they will do what they are asked and remain complacent when completing set out missions.
Aquarius | January 20 – February 18 | Element: Air
The Aquarius marches to the beat of his or her own drum. They are fun-loving and extremely fun to be around, but easily get distracted by their surroundings. One of the only ways an Aquarius will feel rejuvenated is through alone time. Around the barn, Aquarius horses might spook the easiest but only because they were not paying attention. They also may be too wrapped up in their own minds to notice the squirrel jumping from one branch to another.
Pisces | February 19 – March 20 | Element: Water
Potentially the most emotional sign in the zodiac, Pisces are overthinkers and get their feelings hurt easily. They are also very unsure of their own life goals and can pick five different paths before really finding who they are. They enjoy being nurtured and loved on, but are easygoing for the most part and tend to remain accepting of others without judgment. Around the barn, Pisces horses might enjoy their grooming sessions more than any other activity due to the higher levels of affection they receive during this time.
